Prepare the Way Ministry Week 2 - Part 2

by Linda Campbell

March 24, 2006

Greetings to the friends of Prepare the Way,

March 7-13, 2006

After lunch on Thursday, we all got in a big circle at the back of the church. We began to praise God and dance with all our hearts and all our strength.

We were all in one accord with one heart. It was evident that everyone wanted to be close to the heart of Jesus. Worship started to pour out of our innermost beings for our King. Reverence for the holiness of God consumed us. We stood in silence and allowed God to saturate us. Bill had us all close our eyes and embrace Jesus and dance with Him. People didn’t want to move. We were in the embrace of the one we love. Bill spoke, “Jesus, this dance was not for us. It was all for You.” Holy, holy, holy is the Lord.

We stood in amazement at the works of God. He transformed a people in a week. He turned sorrow to joy, death to life, despair to hope. One of our team members had a dream. In the dream people were bringing our team, which consisted of eight pastors and leaders, large amounts of matoke. Matoke is a banana which is a daily staple in the Ugandan diet. As the people in the dream brought the matoke, they each asked the same question. “Have you forgotten that you had planted the fields of matoke? It is now ready for harvesting!” We believed that God was saying that we were reaping the harvest of souls in northern Uganda. We felt that the seeds have been planted by others over many years. Many innocent have died in this region. There is a cry from the people for God to rescue them. If we will say “yes” to God, we will see the fruit in this desolate land.

We were sitting in the outdoor dining area at Spirit FM. A young woman came to visit Clara.

She had been a Muslim. She married a Catholic man. She stopped having her monthly cycles and was unable to conceive. The parents of the husband forced her to leave because all she did was eat the food and did not give them a baby. She was an orphan and had to live with her uncles. We prayed for her and broke the curse of barrenness placed on her by witchcraft. We asked for God’s presence to come and fill her. She told us that she felt a devil come out of her. We shared how when Jesus comes, no devil is strong enough to stay. She received Jesus as the Lord of her life.

On Sunday, Bill preached to the large first service of Kakwas.  The message was strong on the presence of God. It was similar to the first day of the conference, breaking through the dullness. The service ran according to African time. It was to run from 8-10 but we started preaching at 9:30 and prayed for everyone in the church until after 11:30. The pastor was very supportive and wanted us to continue. Some people were touched strongly by God while others only had a layer of darkness puller off. The best receivers were those who had attended for the entire week.

Linda preached at the smaller second service for the Dinka tribe.

The Dinka people make cuts on their foreheads and knock out their bottom six front teeth to identify themselves as Dinkas who have entered adulthood. This tribe is looked down upon by the others in the area. It was evident by their low self esteem. We asked them to dance with us because we heard that the Dinkas really know how to dance. One old man was waving a wooden cross that he carried around with him. The dance seemed to open up a door for them to receive us. Our pastor in Kansas City spoke on “Let Your Spirit Live”. When Linda heard the message, the Lord spoke to her that He wanted that very same word taken to northern Uganda. At the close of the message, Linda invited people to allow God to remove the death from them and receive the life of God. We prayed for many people. One woman brought a baby. The interpreter told us the baby had been in a coma for five days. She had not moved or taken milk that entire time. As Linda held the baby in her arms, we asked for the death to be removed and the life of God to come. She felt the warmth of the spirit of God encircling her arms. The baby’s once rolled back eyes were focused on Linda’s face. The baby moved her little arms weakly. The entire church continued to pray. Linda sat the baby up. Bill poured a small amount of water into her tiny mouth. Her lips began to move as she attempted to suck. The entire church went wild with praise for Jesus, the giver of life. The power of God had overcome death. The child was handed to her mother who stood speechless and unsure of what she had just seen with her own eyes.

Pastor Josiah and Bill sat under a tree last fall with tears running down their faces. They were planning where they could start centers throughout Uganda where they could take the school and the message that God comes down and dwells within His people. This week was part of the reality of a dream from God coming into being. It was very exciting as we met with the pastors of the church in Koboko. Bill shared his vision of starting a school in Koboko and reaching into Sudan with a children’s home. This seemed to be another God appointment. We left feeling that once again the very hand of God was directing our steps.

Our last day in Koboko, we planned to go to Sudan with Clara. We were going to the radio station in Yei to meet with the bishop. We put our hiking boots and blue jeans on. We were going to be ready to hike through the jungle. It is funny how we picture things in our minds at times. Of course it was pouring rain in the morning which delayed everything. Our driver arrived and we set out for the border of Sudan. We had our passports and our U.S. money for the border fees. We arrived at the border to find it closed. It normally opened each day at 6 AM and closed at 6 PM. We were told that the man who would issue our Visas was bathing. With our usual American patience, we sat down for a lengthy wait. After an hour, the man appeared. It was now 10 AM. Due to the heavy rains and the poor roads, he informed us that it would take us about 3 hours to reach Yei, if all went well. Our plan was to return the same day. He would issue our Visa but we still had no idea if and when the border would open. We did not have peace in our spirits about proceeding. Our eyes looked upon Sudan, but our bodies remained in Uganda. We felt that God was closing the door for us at this time. We returned to Spirit FM. Was the LRA in hiding along the road? We do not know. We do know that God is faithful. He goes before us to prepare the way or to divert our route. We are abandoned to His love and completely trust His guidance. We know that it has been your prayers that have protected us. We thank you from the depths of our hearts for your faithfulness. We know that what was done for God this week was because people were praying. There is a deep sense in our spirits that we have been hidden from the enemy this week. We know that we have been protected and provided for because of prayer.

We dearly love you,

Bill and Linda Campbell
