WEEK 4-PART 2  THE MAASI

Our African team was so full of God’s presence that they were literally glowing.  We sent them back to the town of Magena (Kiisi land); to conduct the seminar in the now packed out church of those hungry for more of God. Pastor Barnabas, Ishmael, and Joel led the meetings. Irene saw the breakthrough in the spirit as a warfare intercessor. We received the word that the anointing was heavy, and God worked deeply on the hearts of men.

Bill, Linda, Chairman, Aloysius, and Johosephat, the Maasi pastor who had planted a church deep in the heart of Maasi land, took off on yet another adventure. This time our destination would be the Maasi village of Ndimkom in the Transmara District. Few if any western visitors come to this area but a good work for Jesus is in progress.

The Maasi are a tribe of herdsman, which extend throughout Kenya and Tanzania. The Maasi are an extremely interesting group of people. They believe that all the cattle belong to them. If by some “mistake” another tribe has a cow, it is taken by the Maasi who are “the rightful owners”. This has led to a great deal of conflict and warring between the tribes. The Maasi use bows and arrows to fight their enemies. They have been known to shoot and kill each other during a dispute. Due to the abundance of land, even the least of the Maasi owns 50-60 acres of land along with a herd of cattle. The diet of the Maasi is also very unusual. Each morning, one of the cows is bled to collect some of its blood. The cattle are rotated so that each one is bled approximately once every 2-3 months. Each member of the tribe consumes a liter (½ blood and ½ milk) each day. Dried beef and water supplement the daily diet.

In my last letter, I mentioned that in 2002 prayer and fasting took place on a mountain. This resulted in a breakthrough in the spirit followed by the natural. The government mandated peace between the Kiisi and the Maasi, which has continued to this day.

We marveled at the beauty of the land. It consisted of rolling hills and grassy fields. We stopped the van and climbed up the hill for a better view of this “bit of heaven on earth”. We drove on a little further until Johosephat directed us off the road. We bumped along until we decided this was too wonderful not to travel by foot. After about a mile, we met up with the local pastor who escorted us to his little mud church. The place was full of festively dressed Maasi men, women, and children who had eagerly gathered to greet us. Their clothing was made of bright red plaids of different patterns. We found ourselves once again amongst some of the most beautiful people on the earth. As we bowed our hearts before the Maker of the universe, we became one in purpose and accord, as if there was no difference in tribe, race, or nation. We as God’s children were totally in love with Him. We worshipped. We danced. The people were so hungry for the Word that they would not let Bill stop preaching after one sermon. They insisted he preach to them again. We left the church knowing that we had made friends for all of eternity. Our love for each other had grown deep within just a few short hours.

To our amazement, off in the distance and over the hill lay the country’s most well known and beautiful wild game preserve, Transmara. Just over the hill! My spirit cried to the Lord, “Why has no one come to these people before?” He answered back deep within my heart. The ways of My Kingdom are hidden in a mystery. The way up in this Kingdom is down. Those that want to be great must become the servant. Those that are best known here (in heaven) are some of the least on the earth. My treasures are hidden and must be sought after. If you spend your life with the motive of pleasing My heart and not to be recognized by man, My ways will open before you. You will find that without much effort on your part, I will bring you to a hidden place where My glory will be revealed in others through you. These, my people are precious to me. I have kept them hidden for my purposes. I have not allowed my people to lose their luster by improper exposure.  Revelation 3:17 “Because you say, ‘I am rich, have become wealthy, and have need of nothing—and do not know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked”  I tell you, cherish simplicity. Never forget that I am God and I look deep into the heart of man. I do not see as you see. “I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may be revealed’ and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.” I pondered these words spoken to me and realized that this beautiful group of people, the Maasi would not be forgotten. I asked God to let me see them as He sees them. The Seventh Day Adventists had infiltrated a large majority of the Maasi people. This grieves the heart of the King. God has put a guard over His people.

In my mind, I had not been able to connect what was happening in Kiisi land through the crusade and leadership training with the trip to the Maasi village until now. God showed me more of the puzzle than I had been able to see before. In Kiisi land, He is preparing an army of those that want to see His glory cover the earth; and when they are ready, God will sent them to reach the Maasi people. The connection was totally beyond anything I could have imagined. God is God! His ways are glorious. God has people in Kiisi land crying out for Him to change their hearts. As they go through the fire of the Refiner’s love, they will never be the same. They will be equipped to go to the lost of the Kiisi and the Maasi. The bride of Christ will come forth as one body without spot or wrinkle. This bride will be in love with Jesus and in love with the people that Jesus died for. It is humbling to know that we were allowed to be a small part of this beautiful story.
