BlogsDo not say, "There are four more months..."March 13, 2008 -
Read all blogs Today began early as I prepared to go into the capital city of Uganda, Kampala. I was going to meet with our lawyer. Up till now we have been able to handle most of our government issues in house. We worked on making sure we had all needed requirements finalized to operate the ministry including the children's homes. It was a great meeting. As we concluded I asked if we could pray with him and he agreed. After finishing there we went to check on the farm in Seya. As we traveled Pastor Josiah told me that a very large European organization had heard of Hope Children's Home and has come to see what we were doing at Hope. There comment was that we were one of the best homes they had seen especially how joyful the children were. You must realize that our home is a very simple home but our staff, children, and more importantly the abiding presence of God is what distinguishes us. They want to help us in some way (we are the only home we know of they have offered to help). I am not bragging on us but on the goodness of God. We are praying about what to do for we must be led in God in every relationship. Back to Hope and the farm. As we pulled down the driveway the children screamed with joy with each one hugging and loving on me. I thought I was supposed to love those "poor children" but they loved me so deeply I was the one who benefited. Wilson the Gardener took me on a tour of the land and it was great. I look back at the improvements from the first year and praised the Lord. We have beans, bananas, potatoes, cassava, squash, papas, mangoes, eggplant, tomatoes, and pineapples. Remember everything is dug by hand. Last month at Faith Children's Home they ran out of food a few days early so Pastor Joel took the older boy and walked about 7 kilometers to the farm and was able to harvest enough food to finish the month. Saturday they are going out again to gather more. I hope you can appreciate what a big step this is for us. Many homes do not have this privilege. Some have mandatory fasts for the children to make the food stretch. Finally the day ended with dinner with some staff. We talked of the goodness of God and our need to become more like Him in our attitudes and heart. Tomorrow I fly and may not have opportunity for updates for a couple days. Thank you for giving me the Joy of being your ambassador for Jesus to this land, Pastor Bill
